What do you think of this recent study that tries to prove gay men are more neurologically similar to women?

recent science news

This is a much publicised study, which has been on almost every news website on the internet.

“Scans reveal homosexual men and heterosexual women have symmetrical brains, with the right and left hemispheres almost exactly the same size. Conversely, lesbians and straight men have asymmetrical brains, with the right hemisphere significantly larger than the left.”

“The results could explain a University of London study earlier this year that found gay men and straight women share a poor sense of direction compared with heterosexual men, and were more likely to navigate using landmarks alone.
The right hand side of the brain dominates spatial capabilities, so may be slightly more developed in heterosexual men and lesbians. An earlier study by the same team found gay men and straight women outperformed lesbians and straight men at tasks designed to test verbal fluency.”

I’m very sceptical of this study. Does this apply to masculine gay men and feminine lesbians? What about bisexuals? If this feminization/ masculization of the brain applies only to feminine gay men and butch lesbians, while they’re saying this also supports all forms of homosexuality, aren’t they forgetting there are also many gender typical homosexuals and bisexuals out there who do not conform to this.

“For the first time, in this study it looks like there are regions of the brain not directly involved in sexuality that seem to be feminized in gay males.”

I’m not a gay male myself but my teenage brother who was gay, committed suicide two years ago, due to homophobic bullying, from almost everybody he knew. He was a masculine guy, more masculine than most straight guys I know, but he was made feel less of a man or feminine for being gay – by the media, kids at high school, family etc…. - Because we live in a society made to make homosexuals feel different/feminine/queer/strange, when he and many others aren’t queer at all. We as the public are always anxious to pick out and “spot” homosexuals through gaydar, we initiate studies to examine their finger lengths, hair whorls, fingerprints, tone of voice, the way they walk, their brains, what hand they use, how many brothers they have etc….. We treat them like aliens or freaks from out of space; under the cover of the same old phoney excuse “we are really gay positive and are trying to prove it’s biological”. It’s more like a subtle form of 19th century eugenics, to single out classes of people.

In the end we discover that they are a lot like us. No different by any means, and hold a variability and biological diversity similar to the whole population of this planet.

Hey I’m sorry for that, I’m just generally mad at society and studies just like this for alienating and stereotyping the gay community. Is it so unusual for a straight guy like me to defend homosexuals, bisexuals and transgendered /transsexuals, or to be passionate about avenging society for alienating groups of people?
